Speranța Shelter is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing abandoned dogs from various risk situations in Romania. Many of the animals that end up in our program are sick, injured, neglected or abused. Without rescue, many of these animals would have been euthanized or ended up in even worse situations. It is their right to receive a helping hand and it is our mission to give them one.
Established in 2001 with the rescue of more than 300 dogs from a public shelter that were about to be euthanised, Speranța Shelter now houses more than 500 dogs. For more than two decades, we have been working hard to develop the shelter and equip it with all the necessary facilities for proper treatment and care during the dogs’ stay in the shelter.
Our mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and educate until every dog has a loving and safe place to call home. We aim to end dog abuse and homelessness, because every life matters.
We are dedicated to improving the lives of homeless dogs and the people who love them by rescuing, rehabilitating and relocating them to an adoptive family. At Speranța Shelter we provide them with all their needs, food, the best possible veterinary care and desensitization programs for the emotional recovery of abused dogs.

We are not just a shelter. We’re a team of heartfelt people dedicated to our mission who, along with generous volunteers and supporters, make miracles happen for the dogs who come into our care.
In over 20 years of work, we have written many success stories where elderly, paraplegic, traumatized, sick dogs have been given a new lease on life and are now enjoying a happy life.
From the moment rescued dogs come into our care, we put their welfare first. In addition to meeting their basic needs and medical care, we are concerned with rehabilitating them emotionally and behaviorally so that they can be adopted, which is how we created the “Messengers of Hope” training and desensitization program.
To encourage responsible adoptions, we organize a monthly “Stew for all Bobiță” event, where volunteers, employees, famous and ordinary people cook a hot meal for the more than 500 dogs in the shelter. The event was born out of a desire to bring a little joy to the dogs in the shelter, but also to bring people closer to the animals.

Speranța Foundation was founded in 1996 and, for more than two decades, we have done everything in our power for the welfare of our silent friends, especially for abandoned and suffering dogs.
