Azorel's story

Azorel is safe now. But he doesn’t know that yet.

Rescued from a place where too many dogs never got a second chance, Azorel arrived at Speranța carrying something we couldn’t see: a deep fear of people. To this day, he’s so frightened that we can barely get close to him.

A gentle touch, a kind hand, a moment of affection — things every dog deserves — are still terrifying to him. Through our Messengers of Hope programme, we’re helping Azorel slowly rebuild the trust his past took away.

We don’t know how long it will take, but we’ll give him all the patience and care he needs. More than anything, we hope that one day, Azorel will look at a person and feel safe instead of afraid.

Tell us a little about you, choose your monthly amount and confirm your sponsorship with your first payment. After that, it’s automatic, nothing more for you to do.

Receive updates

Once your sponsorship begins, we'll send you a welcome email with your sponsorship certificate. Every month, you'll receive updates and photos, so you can see how Azorel is doing and the difference your support is making.

Manage your sponsorship

You can manage your donation by accessing the Donor Portal from the emails confirming your monthly payment. You can edit or cancel your sponsorship anytime.

Your gift will help cover the cost of food, veterinary care, shelter and everything else they need throughout the year.

Unlike monthly sponsorship, this option does not include regular updates or a dedicated sponsorship relationship with Azorel. It’s simply another meaningful way to help provide the care they deserve.

Why dogs like Azorel need sponsors

Every year, thousands of dogs are abandoned on the streets of Romania.

Many eventually arrive at Speranța Shelter after suffering neglect, illness or abuse. While we work tirelessly to find every dog a loving home, some simply wait much longer than others.

Older dogs, dogs with disabilities, and those carrying emotional scars are often overlooked despite having so much love to give.

Sponsorship allows dogs like Azorel to receive everything they need for as long as they’re with us. It also helps us continue rescuing the next stray dog with nowhere else to go.

About Speranța Shelter

For more than 20 years, Speranța Shelter has been rescuing, treating and caring for abandoned dogs in Romania.

Today, more than 500 dogs rely on us every day for food, medical treatment, rehabilitation and a safe place to live while they wait for a forever home.
