After months of patience, care, and lots of love, Agripina has been completely transformed. For more than half a year, every weekend, she has been visited by a wonderful family, determined to give her a new life. This continuity, attention, and closeness have given her the confidence she so desperately needed.
And recently, Agripina took a huge step: she went for a walk in Tineretului Park! It was her first experience outside the shelter, and her reaction moved us deeply: curious, confident, happy to discover the world outside the fences that had protected her for so long.
This was not just a walk, it was clear proof that Agripina is ready to become part of a family.
Her transformation is living proof that when a soul is given time, patience, and love, it can blossom again.
After nine difficult months since arriving at the shelter, Agripina has come a long way. We find this symbolic because human gestation lasts exactly nine months. Well, it turns out that sometimes, after nine months, a dog can be born too. Yes, it’s a metaphor, but we really feel that, thanks to our joint efforts, we have managed to give birth to a new dog.
Agripina came to the shelter more dead than alive. Worse than her physical injuries, she seemed to have lost her will to live and somehow her survival instinct. And although a shelter is not the ideal place to treat such emotional wounds, we succeeded: today, Agripina is a fluffy, gorgeous, confident, gentle, and perfectly adoptable dog.
The puppy we couldn’t get close to at first, and whom we could only pet or feed from a distance with the help of a wooden hand, has undergone the most spectacular transformation.

You know how children, especially in adolescence, go through developmental stages, many with anger at their core? Well, Agripina became a rocker.
And we accept and love her as she wants to be. She, to be honest, is feeling more and more loved, because we see clear progress in her behaviour towards many people at Hope.
To those who don’t know, we remind them that, at the beginning, we couldn’t even put a hand in Agripina’s paddock. She is the puppy that was originally fed with a wooden handle. Now, after many steps at Messengers of Hope, Agripina accepts cuddles and, on her best days, even seeks them out. We are proud of her.

Agripina’s progress is becoming evident. One step at a time, we are taking important steps in her emotional recovery. Agripina is now receiving specialist help and is included in our desensitisation programme ‘Messengers of Hope’.
There is still work to be done, for now we are just two people she has come to trust and as you can see in the video, she is approaching us for food.
We are confident that our efforts will be rewarded and we are already dreaming of the moment when Agripina will be walking freely around the shelter (for now she is not leaving the ambulatory) or, why not, she will go happily to her home.

Agripina’s progress is slow because her wound is a big one. Since we don’t know how much and how our dogs were injured, we let them set the pace of progress in terms of confidence. Initially we couldn’t even get close to her at all. Feeding her was an adventure. Then, we started using a wooden „handle” to be able to give her food. After a long time, we were even able to touch her, but she still is very sensitive to touching.
It’s still extreme sport when we have to treat her. Who knows what trauma this puppy has been through that she is still so scared, even though we do everything humanly possible to prove to her that we are good people. But we don’t give up, slowly we will succeed. Both us and Agripina!

We called her Agripina, with Gala Galaction’s „To the vultures!” novella in mind, because she is a fighter and a symbol of resilience.
Agripina was found in this deplorable state, in a village in Prahova county. We could not remain indifferent when asked for help.
We can’t know exactly what happened to her, but we do know what we have now: a dog with two sides of the same coin, the coin of trauma. One side is almost constant fear (of people, mostly), the other is aggression.
Whatever happened to Agripina, it’s clear that one or more people hurt her. And for good to happen, she will need our patience and affection. Robert, in particular, our trainer who visits the dogs three times a week, is ready to give her a run for her money. And Anca, our vet, is ready to heal her and turn Agripina into a real princess.
Agripina suffers from a generalized form of parasitic disease, represented by the appearance of extensive lesions over most of her body, comedos, follicular cysts, papules, lichenification, alopecia, oedema and plantar pain. Treatment is long-term and consists of anti-itch medication, antibiotics, antifungals, immunotherapy, vitamin supplements for skin and coat, solutions and shampoos, hypoallergenic diet.

Fundația Adăpostul Speranța a fost înființată în 1996 de Florina Tomescu și, încă de la momentul creării, a contribuit decisiv la bunăstarea animalelor din România, în special la cea a câinilor abandonați și aflați în suferință.
În noaptea de 18.04.2001, personalul Fundației Speranța, alături de echipa Vier Pfoten România, a salvat 300 de câini din adăposturile primăriei, câini care altfel ar fi căzut victime noii legi de eutanasiere. A fost vorba de un veritabil act de salvare în masă într-o perioadă teribilă atât pentru animale, cât și pentru iubitorii de animale.
Câinii de la Speranța au fost salvați din stradă sau din diferite situații-limită. Adăpostul nostru adăpostește circa 500 de câini. Dintre aceștia, 7 sunt paraplegici (beneficiază de îngrijire specială și se deplasează cu ajutorul unor cărucioare), iar circa 200 sunt seniori, adică trecuți de 12 ani. Avem mulți câini bătrâni în adăpost, însă încercăm constant să le găsim și acestora familii.
Fundația Speranța face eforturi pentru a le găsi adoptatori câinilor din adăpost, oferind inclusiv posibilitatea adoptării la distanță. Fundația Speranța organizează permanent evenimente de promovare a adopțiilor și de conștientizare a responsabilității pe care cu toții trebuie să o purtăm față de animale.
Anual, echipa Adapostului Speranța desfășoară programe de sterilizare pentru câini și pisici cu proprietar, proiect pro bono pentru cei interesați.
Adăpostul Speranța se bazează în totalitate pe donații private pentru a îngriji cei peste 500 de câini în fiecare an și pentru a finanța toate programele sale. Cheltuielile lunare pentru întreținerea adăpostului se ridică la peste 30.000 de Euro.
Pe lângă cheltuielile de întreținere, avem nevoie continuă de suport financiar pentru a îmbunătăți condițiile de trai ale câinilor, oferindu-le un mediu curat, sigur și iubitor. Adăpostul a fost constant modernizat, au fost reconstruite padocurile pentru a fi mai confortabile și primitoare pentru locuitorii lor, s-au creat 4 locuri de joacă pentru câini, cele 2 clinici medicale au fost dotate cu aparatură de ultimă generație.
De asemenea, Adăpostul Speranța se implică activ în campanii de promovare a adopțiilor și de educație și conștientizare a responsabilității pe care cu toții trebuie să o avem față de animale, pentru a preveni abandonul și actele de cruzime asupra acestora.
