Help us take care of our paralyzed dogs

At Speranța Shelter we currently have 10 dogs who face a major challenge – they are paralysed on their back and can only move with the help of a special wheelchair. Many of these brave animals arrive unable to use their hind legs and, without help, would struggle to move, play or socialise. We provide expert paralysed dog care in a safe, supportive environment, ensuring that each dog enjoys dignity, comfort and as much mobility as possible.

These dogs benefit from preferential treatment, special diet and therapy programmes. Recovery and maintenance therapy is done according to individualised programmes.  Also, the strollers break down quite often due to long use and thus require regular repair or even replacement.

Thanks to the physiotherapy practice dedicated to our paraplegic dogs, but also to the patience and superhuman efforts of our colleagues, we have been able to work wonders. We managed to get dogs walking again that no doctor would have thought could ever recover. Over time, 5 out of 25 paraplegic dogs no longer needed a wheelchair after physiotherapy sessions, and they started walking on their own.

Our paraplegic dogs have a special regime in the shelter

We do not euthanize dogs under virtually any circumstances, and under no circumstances do we euthanize dogs that can no longer use their hind legs. On the contrary, we love and pet them even more and provide them with lifetime care and accommodation.

Every day they are free in the shelter and use their individual wheelchairs built for their needs. They are thoroughly bathed and groomed daily, and get regular exercise in our physiotherapy clinic.

So, if you come to visit us sometime, expect to be greeted by happy, playful dogs on wheels who, apart from the fact that they can’t quite execute the „sit” command, behave in all respects exactly like normal, healthy dogs.

And while you’re visiting, ask our shelter colleagues about their stories, because they all have challenging and often painful stories behind them.

They can’t be physically adopted as they need special care, but any donation would mean the world to us and to them. Their spirits are joyous, playful and affectionate. Many visitors to the shelter are surprised to see how happy and engaged they are, especially when equipped with their wheels and harnesses. Your paralysed dog donations truly make a meaningful difference.
