Singurel was found alone, abandoned on the side of a road in the village of Maia. He was in a state that is hard to describe: his skin was an open wound, infested with maggots, and his eyes said more than words ever could. A heartbreaking sadness—somewhere between life and death.
He was rushed to the shelter and immediately placed on the treatment table. What you see today is already a vastly improved version of the condition he was in back then. A race against time began to save him—one in which every act of help mattered enormously.
Because he was found alone, we named him Singurel (“Little One Alone”). A temporary name. Because from the very first day, we promised him he would never be alone again.
Singurel began treatment for the severe skin disease he was suffering from, and the results appeared gradually. He regained the strength to stand, to walk, to enjoy life. He sleeps a lot—he is still recovering—and when we brush him to gently remove the scabs, he stays perfectly still; you would almost swear he is purring.
Singurel is a setter cross: a medium-to-large dog, energetic, playful, extremely friendly and intelligent. A dog who wants nothing more than what we all long for—not to be alone.
Today, Singurel is no longer alone. His new family chose him and changed his name to Bengi—a name that suits a healthy, loved, and happy dog.
His adoption is thanks to Cosmina and her family, who said “yes” without hesitation, and to our shelter team. Without the hard work, patience, and dedication of the people who fight every day for the dogs of Speranța, Singurel’s transformation would not have been possible.
His journey—from the roadside where he was condemned to die to the arms of a loving family—is living proof that rescue is not only about medical treatment. True rescue happens when a dog is chosen.
Bengi is one of our success stories.
A story about rescue, patience, community, and love.
